Improving the employability of students through quality careers education and work related activities
Aims and Outcomes
This programme will help school staff review current careers education and work related learning provision in the light of the careers strategy and new statutory guidance including provider access requirements with the aim of ensuring that students can make the most of their future opportunities.
The programme will consider employability skills, attitudes and actions to enhance students success and demonstrate to parents, employers, governors and Ofsted your institution’s commitment to quality destinations for your students.
The key objectives of the programme
By the end of the programme participants will have had the opportunity to:
- Consider how to support students decision making using local, national and international labour market information. Participants will leave the day with a resource and information checklist on useful websites and sources of Labour Market Information
- Plan how to use local employers to help with students motivation, aspiration and decision making
- Develop a map of current and future curriculum programme needs linked to employability and opportunity preparation
- Use a range of careers education and work related learning delivery models and content to refresh own thinking and take away new ideas including benchmarking against key standards including Gatsby and the new careers strategy and guidance
- Consider how to ensure career guidance links to career preparation and employability
- Understand and use the destination data cycle to evaluate and continually improve outcomes for students
Who is it for?
Staff who need an introduction or a refresher on how to develop and use careers education, information and guidance (CEIAG) and work related learning experiences to enhance the employability and destinations of students.
Target staff includes staff in school with responsibility for careers and work related activities, Heads of Year, Work-based learning coordinators, Tutors, Heads of pastoral services

Delivery methods
A mix of input, practice application, skills practice, case studies and reflective practice.
